Huge thanks to the incredible Claremont Cross Country team for going the distance—literally! They laced up their shoes and ran for 24 hours—not just for the miles, but for our newly arrived neighbors. Through every mile, every handoff, every sleepless hour, they raised an amazing $2,780 for Claremont Canopy. This act of heart, grit, and solidarity means more than words can say. The entire Claremont Canopy community celebrates a momentous achievement, as our dear friend Samer has officially become a U.S. citizen! Samer’s journey began in 2012 when he left Syria in search of safety and new beginnings. Through years of dedication, persistence, and hard work, he has reached this significant milestone. His path from refugee to citizen over these thirteen years stands as a powerful testament to the human spirit. In these challenging times, Samer’s achievement brings much-needed light and hope to our community. His story reminds us all of the dreams that continue to flourish when supported by determination and community. At Claremont Canopy, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing Samer’s incredible journey, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate this achievement with him! Congratulations, Samer! This country is fortunate to officially welcome you as a citizen.

Huge thanks to the Benton Museum of Art and the Claremont Muslim Student Association for helping make our annual Iftar in a Jar (or rather, box!) event so meaningful this year. Together, we assembled Ramadan care packages filled with goodies for our families to break their fast—each one including a handwritten note with warm Ramadan wishes. We’re so grateful to our partners for helping us continue this beautiful tradition of care and community.

In the face of policies that marginalize those seeking safety, we will continue working tirelessly to ensure every family we encounter finds the support, dignity, and compassion they deserve. This is not about charity—it is about justice, humanity, and the fundamental belief that everyone has the right to live in safety and peace. Since 2017, we have welcomed over 150 families, including our newest Canopy family members from Palestine, who arrived just last week. Through advocacy for fair immigration policies, tangible support like housing assistance and education, and fostering a welcoming community, we remain steadfast in our mission. Now, more than ever, we urge you to walk hand in hand with us as we stand with our new arrival neighbors. Together, we can build a world that values compassion over division and action over apathy. #yalla
